Singer Turkish Point Attachment Zigzagger

I just discovered another VERY RARE (not even mentioned in my 1920's and 1930's Machine Sewing Singer manuals!) Singer Attachment for the early Singer Straight Stitch Only sewing machines, which works very similar to the zigzaggers and buttonholers of the time! It apparently was only sold in Europe, and was made for sewing on wovens, like a hemstitcher, but shockingly, even includes instructions for JERSEY (A KNIT! Be sure to use the correct size of ballpoint, or jersey needle when sewing knits.), except certain ordinary cotton, and synthetic silks!

The reason the Turkush Point Stitch is recommended for some jersey knit fabrics, is due to the elasticity that the zigzagging stitch creates, so the stitches will not break, when the fabric stretches. Obviously, some cotton and synthetic silk jersey knits had been tested, with this attachment, but those specific fabrics did not stitch as well, possibly due to stretching, but not having good stretch recovery.

SINGER TURKISH POINT ATTACHMENT

Made in Switzerland, and apparently, only sold in Europe!

Singer Turkish Points Attachment
Case wuth original anti tarnish wrapper, Thumbscrew, feed dog coverplate, coverplate screw

Like a zigzagger, for straight stitch only, sewing machines, the Turkish Point Attachment moves the FABRIC back and forth, so a feed dog cover is included (and is essential), and the fork fits over the needlebar screw, to activate the side to side motion, and control fabric feed.

As with all attachments, your sewing will be more successful, if you read and follow all instructions. I noticed that some fabrics will sew better when basted to a piece of paper, 2 centimeters apart, on the sides of the area to be decorated with Turkish Point Stitch.

The Singer Turkish Point Attachment appears to be very similar to a Singer Zick Zacker sold in Germany, and while it is somewhat similar to the Singer Zigzagger with 10 cams, also made in Switzerland, the Turkish Point Attachment does not have the calibrated zigzag bite (width) selector, or the walking foot features of the Singer Zigzagger made in Switzerland.

Note- the part numbers visible on the various pieces in the photos, are part numbers for those pieces, not for the Turkish Point Attachment.

(I hope to add more information and instruction pages, if possible, so feel free to check back later!)
