FABRIC FUN & SEWING NOTIONS

For those of us who love to sew, one thing gets us SUPER EXCITED, & that is FABRIC! The availability & cost of fabric goes up & down, depending on the cost of oil, both for transporting fabric from one country to another, as well as a basic ingredient in many synthetic fabrics, as well as the political state of the world economy. Currently, in the USA, fabric is inexpensive, & easy to find in large cities, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a good fabric & sewing store in smaller communities, due to Walmart moving into the fabric & sewing business, back in the 1990s, & literally driving the smaller, privately owned fabric & sewing stores out of business.

Basically, when you find fabric you like, at a price you can afford, snap it up, and find a good way to store it until you use it. That is the ONLY reason I can sew today!

Due to online petitions, & online media posts pointing out how Walmart has almost singlehandedly destroyed the sewing store industry & retail business in the USA, then began shutting down Walmart's own sewing sections, customers finally convinced Walmart to reopen their fabric & sewing sections. Low clothing prices have also played a part, since you can buy finished clothing at Walmart, cheaper than you can sew the same article, even with Walmart prices on fabric & sewing notions! (As of 2021, this is changing, as clothing prices jump!)

Fabric can now be purchased online, so for those who no longer have sewing & fabric stores locally, it is possible to purchase fabric & have it delivered to your home, a very convenient way to go, as long as you can find sites you trust, who sell both quality products, & have good prices. Many sellers, even on EBay, will combine shipping for several purchases, saving you more money on shipping, than you would have spent on gas, to drive to your local store! To give you an idea of some of the online sources to buy from, I will be including links below-

Keep an eye on Craigs list & local newspaper classified ads, garage sale sites, many times, when a sewing enthusiast is placed in a rest home, or passes away, their family members will sell their machines, accessories, patterns, & FABRIC, at garage sale prices, to get cash quick, this can be one of the best ways to get a lot of high quality fabric & sewing items, for a very low cost. Sometimes, people will just ask for $250, for machines, tables, all fabric, thread, etc., & sometimes that is an entire room full of stuff!

Here in North Carolina, USA, every time I have seen a sewing garage or estate sale sign, or advertisement, usually they are sold out by 9 a.m., regardless of how much they started with, particularly if they start advertising by putting out signs & using the internet, to advertise, a week ahead of the sale.

I will be adding to this over time, if possible, please check back!

I had to delete the comments sections due to Phishing creeps putting their links into the comments.
