BABY LOCK 5280E SERGER SEWING MACHINE SEWS PROFESSIONAL SEAMS QUICKLY & EASILY!
One of the fabulous ProLine series of sergers, the Baby lock 5280E Serger is a well built, mostly metal serger, the engineers created a miniaturized version of the industrial sergers used in clothing factories, making faster, more professional finishes available to the home sewer! The BabyLock Serger has built in cutting blades which trim the edge of fabric off evenly, while the 2 needles & 2 loopers rapidly create various stitches, from the heavy duty mock safety stitch, to the tiny narrow rolled hem, which can be used to add wire to the edges of ribbon or fabric, or for a curly ruffle on sheers, you can add fishing line, to help the ruffles stand out!
Mock safety stitch- the left needle sews a separate straight stitch on top, that only locks with the lower looper, it does not include the upper looper, and will not be part of the thread chain, unless sewing on fabric.
High speed - professional finishes FAST!!!
2/3/4 thread mock safety stitch, overlock, rolled hem, flatlock, blind hem, decorative braiding & more!
Removable stitch finger to create tiny rolled hems, storage inside machine left door to hold stitch finger & tweezers, needles, while not in use.
Differential Feed- from - .70 to + 2.0 create lettuce hems to gobs of ruffles in an instant! Lever on right side
Stitch Width - 3.5 mm to 7.5 mm if I remember right
Stitch Length - 1 mm to 4 mm
Locking blades can be disengaged, if desired, the upper knife pushes in & rotates up out of the way.
Excellent high quality machines, made to last more than 1 lifetime, much heavier duty than the models sold today. Despite enjoying the opportunity to use a Babylock Eclipse, the Imagine Wave, & Evolve Serger coverstitch overlock serger sewing machines, I actually purchased another Baby Lock Pro Line BL4-5280E, then the BL4-838D, because they feel so heavy duty, so quiet (if kept cleaned & oiled properly), & I can get so much done, so fast, & they seem to last forever! It is a luxury to keep one serger set for 3 threads, one for 4, & one for coverstitches, but if you can, this is the ultimate setup to have, & I really LOVE these BabyLock Pro sergers! (I later gifted the 5280E to a friend, because I kept the 838D and Evolve.)
Ask the seller to unscrew the thread stand from the machine, & to pack the machine & thread stand very carefully, & ALWAYS insure them when shipping, these machines are a serious treasure, well worth the extra care to get them where they are going, safely! Happy Serging!

Threading order- must be threaded in order, for stitches to function. Long bent tweezers helo make threading faster and easier.
1. Upper looper
2. Lower looper
3. Needles last
If needles are threaded, and a looper thread breaks, you must either unthread the needle eyes, before rethreading loopers in correct order, or if there is no thread chain on the stitch fingers, raise the presser foot, and use a thin tool like a nail file, or sewing awl, or small thin screwdriver, to sweep under the presser foot, from front to back, to free the needle threads from being trapped under the lower looper.
If the needle threads are not freed from the lower looper, after rethreading the loopers in correct order, your machine will break the threads again, and will not form stitches.
Threading looper eyelets is easier, if you buy a pack of the blue dental floss threaders for dental braces, tear shaped blue clear plastic floss, at any drugstore. You can put thread through the loop, then the end of the floss can be pushed easily through the eyelet of the loopers. Threading the 2 eyelets of the lower looper is MUCH easier with this tool!
