NECCHI SUPERNOVA SEWING MACHINE 10/6/2017

Necchi Supernova can use industrial high shank presser feet to make perfect seams easier, using center needle position, and a straight stitch.

Industrial presser foot allows specially spaced seaming to be much faster and easier, a major bonus of the Italian made Necchi Supernova, as well as the BU models, and BF

My Necchi Supernova is in a gorgeous table, in my "guest room", with plenty of drawers for the accessory case full of cams,s and presser feet.
Having the correct presser feet, seam guides, cams, and accessories, can really make sewing easier, and more fun! This original Necchi Supernova accessory set and case, includes the original oil bottle, with a brass straw that pulls out, with a threaded screw on top. I don't have oil in it, because the plastic is old, but I LOVE having this pretty complete kit!

Necchi Supernova accessory kit includes the automatic buttonhole cam (large metal handle attached), 3 cam hubs for building your own special stitch designs using the single cams in the slots on the left, as well as 4 or more (depending on your accessory set and machine model) automatic stitch cams which are already completed. The top of the case has a dial, which, when turned, tells you how to set the stitch length, width, and other details for sewing that specific stitch design, which is shown in the window on the case lid.

Supernova accessory kit includes 2 sizes of flathead screwdrivers, a needle threader, seam guides, multiple presser feet, and your original would have come with 2 bobbin cases, one regular, and one black latch embroidery bobbin case, so you don't have to keep re adjusting bobbin tension, when you switch back and forth between embroidery or buttonholes with thick threads, and regular threads for lighter weight fabrics. (I had 2 black latch cases in this accessory set at one point, I put the extra with my BU Mira, when I got it.)

Necchi bobbins are aluminum, so sometimes the engraving of Necchi will wear off, with heavy use. Notice the insides of these Necchi bobbin cases, it is wise to clean them out with a Q tip, to remove buildup of lint which they acquire over time, and use. The top case has been cleaned, the bottom one has not. .

Necchi straight stitch, zigzag, and double needle presser feet, and 2 high shank adjustable zipper feet.

Necchi is an Italian sewing machine manufacturing company, which began in Italy, though manufacturing has since moved to Taiwan, as the world financial markets & monetary values have fluctuated, as well as because it became more profitable, to move the manufacturing to developing nations, with much lower wage costs. The early Necchi's are very high quality, similar to the Ferarri & Lamborghini, superstar sport cars, the Necchi sewing machines were world class superstar sewing machines, of their day.

When zigzag sewing machines became the most popular models to own, the Necchi BU, & later, the Supernova, in the 1950s, boasted the ability to sew more stitch types than any other sewing machine of their day. A special set of interchangeable cams, which could be rearranged to the owner's own design, then locked securely, & inserted in the machine, was the star of the Supernova.

Necchi's rotating 3 stage needleplate, offered a quick & easy method to change from zigzag to straight stitch needle plate, to darning & freestyle embroidery needleplate, with no need to worry about losing the extra needle plates, as with other models. Particularly for sewing with luxury fabrics like silk, a straight stitch needleplate protects the fabric from being pushed by the needle, down through the rectangular zigzag needle opening, which can damage the fabric, as well as jamming the sewing machine, so Necchi's rotating 3 stage needleplate, can be a valuable addition to your sewing machine, even if the accessory case is lost.

This green & cream hunk of curvaceous metal, is my new to me, Necchi Supernova, which my husband recently purchased for me. It is in much better condition than I expected, since most of these lovely machines are frozen solid, with the dried up lubricants, & require a good amount of work, before they can be sewn with, but this one was in very good running condition, though I do not yet have the cams, so I am unable to test the cam mechanism, yet.

FROZEN FEED DOGS PISTON-

My Supernova's feed dog piston was frozen solid, from dried up old oil, in a couple of places in the linkage, even though the feed dog control on top of the machine bed, turned, and moved up and down. I followed Kristin Kay Harmon's instructions for cleaning the feed dog piston (use kerosene or rubbing alcohol, some people spray it, but I used Qtips dipped in alcohol to cut through the old oil, after letting fresh oil soak in these areas, for a couple of days, first. After dabbing as much brown oil off, as I could, I applied fresh Tri Flow oil, and lots of jiggling, a blow dryer on high temp (don't aim at plastic parts, or metal encased in a plastic part), to help melt the old oil. A rubber mallet can be used to gently break through the lacquer of dried old oil, but literally, only a gentle tap, and you MUST know which direction the parts are supposed to move, and only tap to move it that direction, or you may damage your machine.
