Veg O Matic food slicer, dicer, wedger food processor

Make it EASY on yourself to prepare, slice, dice, & wedge firm fresh fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, firm tomatoes, boiled eggs, apples, onions, raw peeled potatoes, even boiled potatoes for salad, fried potatoes, french fries! My favorite way to use my Veg O Matic, is to thin slice fresh firm strawberries, then add a bit of sugar, a tsp. of orange or almond extract or liquer, then serve the berries over angel food cake, with whipped cream topping! I've never had it so easy, preparing the strawberries- I used to hate making strawberry shortcake or strawberries & cream, because it took so long to hull the berries & slice them- now I don't even think twice about it, I know I can prepare them quickly & easily with my Veg O Matic slicer, dicer, wedger food processor!
To clean my Veg O Matic, as soon as I finish preparing my fruits and veggies with it, I rinse it off at the sink, remove the metal plates (mine is the old version with heavy aluminum or steel cutting blades), use a brush to quickly soap off any food, rinse them, then place them in my toaster over & push the 'toast' button- as fast as you can make a slice of toast, my Veg O Matic's metal slicing plates are sterile & dry! That way they don't risk rusting! I dry the plastic part by hand, and store it in it's original box, so it is protected from damage, so it will be ready and waiting the next time I cook with veggies!
Depending on whether you purchase one of the original 'vintage' versions, your cutting discs may be heavy aluminum or steel rings with metal blades, or the newer versions with plastic rings and metal blades. The blades themselves are VERY SHARP! Do not allow children to play with them. The way you place the rings in the plastic body of the Veg O Matic, determines whether you are going to make super thin slices, french fry thick slices, or wedges, or cubes! Not all vintage Veg O Matics have a wedge blade, that was always purchased separately, but apparently the newer versions sometimes have 4 different rings for different sizes of slices or dices. I cannot vouch for how well the plastic rings work, but the older all metal blades & rings are FANTASTIC, and really speed up your food preparation time!
It is safer than trying to slice these items with a knife, and it really does save a TON of time! My experience with boiled potatoes, really hooked me on the Veg O Matic, because my hubby loves fried potatoes, so I boil up a bag of potatoes, and then when he wants fried potatoes, I cut the potatoes in half, place the flat side down on the blades, and press down quickly. If there is still a skin on the potatoes, I've discovered that most of the potato skin comes off of the potato, so you are peeling and chopping it at the same time! I recently tried raw potatoes, thinking they would be too tough for the Veg O Matic, but it turns out, if raw potatoes are peeled, they slice perfectly! This made my task of making my homemade Rich Potato soup (Hickory Farm beefstick cubed, potatoes, onions, celery, chicken broth & milk, then thicken with a tablespoon of flour mixed in 1 or 2 cups of sour cream to thicken the soup) for Mom & Dad's 50th anniversary party, a quick task! I was AMAZED at how quickly & well it worked!
I absolutely recommend the Veg O Matic food slicer, dicer, wedger, food processor- it will make your time in the kitchen much shorter & sweeter, keeping your hands much safer than chopping the food with your hands wielding a knife! If you find one, snap it up quickly! You will not regret it, as long as you give yourself a few times to test your Veg O Matic, you will discover that it can save you HOURS of work, as well as saving you from paying extra to purchase veggies & fruit that are already prepared. Best of Luck!
