Simplicity 8220 Sewing Machine

Quick release extension table, changes from freearm to flatbed machine, to make sewing larger projects easier, but if you need to change the bobbin, it is quick & easy to remove the extension table, to access the bobbin.

Simplicity is a nice quality sewing machine, and while I wouldn't call it super heavy duty, it really can do most home sewing.  This is a zigzag sewing machine, with a lot of built in stitches, which really expands the uses, for anyone who wants to sew a variety of stitches, including stretch stitches, and embroidery stitches for decorative purposes.

This particular machine, is a freearm, as well, which makes it easier to sew pant hems, cuffs, necklines, & other circular types of sewing, as well as having the snap on presser foot system, which makes it extremely fast & easy to change presser feet.

When I received this machine, it did not sew correctly, because the bobbin hook, and bobbin system, had been damaged by the needle, and possibly by someone doing something crazy with it, because I had to actually try to bend the bobbin hook mechanism back into the correct shape for sewing, because it literally has horribly roughed up, as if it had been rubbed against blacktop (road), or cement!

This simplicity is made out of mostly cast aluminum & steel, with a few plastic pieces, in areas where metal isn't necessary, for strength. It does have a nylon, or similar type of plastic camstack, with the gear built into it, and while these do eventually dry out & crack in most machines, they can last for decades, before that happens, and if they are kept in climate controlled homes, they are far less likely to dry and crack as soon, & will probably outlast most of us.

Notice the bobbin is a quick release type, with the little black plastic levers, which can be quickly flipped out of the way, to pull out the bobbin hook, bobbin case, & bobbin, if they do happen to get jammed, or if you accidentally begin sewing, before getting fabric under the needle.

I love how lightweight & portable these sewing machines are, it appears the Simplicity is very similar to the newer Necchi's, which I also love, they may even be manufactured in the same factory, something I hope I remember to check, sometime.
