Bernina's computerized 153 Quilter's Edition Sewing Machine, with CPS choice of stitches, is an excellent beginner sewing machine, especially for anyone wanting to begin quilting, or even sewing clothing, drapes, and home decorating.
Some of the special features include needle up/down with a heel tap, or by setting the machine to always stop with the needle up, or down (whichever one you want, while you are sewing on your project), really makes it easier to manipulate your sewing projects, like quilts, sewing elastic in clothing, & similar sewing tasks that always seem to require more hands than we have!
The Bernina 153 QE also has the capability of raising and lowering the presser foot, with a knee bar, though I have one knee bar, to share between several machines, so I don't have a separate knee bar for each machine, but raising and lowering the presser foot with your knee, really comes in handy, when handling quilts, & large sewing projects, which are awkward. It allows you to turn corners more easily, by having the needle down, move your knee to raise the presser foot, then you can turn the quilt, (or project), and lower the foot with your knee, then continue stitching, without having to constantly rearrange yourself, & your machine & project.

| Hard case holds both the extension table (note it on the front of the case), a well for storing the pedal, cord, and accessory case, while the machine handle slides up through the center, making it easy to carry all of it, with one hand. For quilters, and sewing large projects, a Sew Steady portable table creates a large flat bed, level with presser foot, to make it easier to sew, without the weight of the project, causing distortions. The Sew Steady table is clear, so almost impossible to photograph, lol!
