Choosing the correct needle

Choosing the correct needle, is essential to successful sewing, especially when sewing with any type of sewing machine, or serger.  Home sewing machines and sergers usually use totally different needle systems, from industrial sewing machines and sergers, and there are many important differences between the thousands of needles available. (Some needle systems are no longer manufactured, due to the machines they were used for, becoming obsolete.)

If your sewing machine is having difficulty sewing any particular fabric, it may simply have the wrong needle, for the type of fabric, for the tightness, or density of the fabric, it may have the wrong needle tip type, be the wrong size, have too small of a needle eye, for your thread, there are MANY important details to consider, when choosing the correct needle.

SYSTEM- all needles in each specific needle system, are the same length, and shaft size

TYPE- 

TIP- round tip, ballpoint, semi ballpoint, sharp, leather, microfiber, specially designed for optimal stitch formation in the fabrics and textiles specified

SIZE- 8/60 10/70 12/80 14/90 16/100 18/110   American/European sizes for various weights of fabric

SPECIAL FEATURES- chrome, titanium, nonstick, Embroidery (larger eye),
