I was very lucky, to buy it second hand, after the main sewing factories in the area around Charlotte, North Carolina, were shut down, so my table includes the trash chute, as well. I wish our factories had survived, but since they have not, I'm thrilled to own these fabulous industrial machines, especially when I want to sew quickly, and lots of stitching!
OILING
Officially, the manual for these machines calls for VR 604 Esso Standard Terresso 43 oil, but I purchased a gallon of Lily White sewing machine oil, which works great. Obviously, the Italian factories which manufactured this INDUSTRIAL SERGER, are no longer in business, so buying their companies oil products is no longer possible. When putting in oil, there is a small oil level indicator window. Do NOT expect to see oil in this window, or you will overfill it. The indicator is actually a circular tube with a float, that goes up, as the oil level goes up. The float may be slow in responding to the addition of oil, so pour the oil in slowly, stopping, and checking for the red, or orange float indicator to move up in the indicator window. Do not overfill it, or you may blow the seals on your machines, and have an oil mess everywhere!
Check your manual, in case you need to remove, and clean or change a filter. Industrial sergers collect an incredible amount of lint, as you sew, and yes, it often winds up inside the machines, as well. Try to develop good habits of cleaning your serger at the end of your workday, if possible, to help it run at optimal speed and function.

While it isn't perfectly clean, I have finally removed all the lint & oil that was filling the machine front area, and was able to thread it. Note the front and side/bed doors are open to show you the insides of the working areas. |
Rimoldi was my first personal experience owning and using an industrial serger. The Rimoldi 27 is a 3 thread industrial serger, and requires industrial sewing machine oil. It has an internal oil reservoir, and pump system, which is what allows it to sew at high speeds, without overheating, and seizing up.

Rimoldi 27 as it looked closed, it appeared semi clean, for having sat for years, unused. The following photos show more of the truth, even after I vacuumed it! |
Rimoldi serger, was absolutely packed with lint, even after vacuuming, it had lint all over the place. It appeared to have been used to sew something with fur, or chenille type fabrics, before we purchased it. It took a LOT of cleaning! |
You don't want your serger to be packed with lint, it will eventually stop running properly, but will also slow down, and be more likely to overheat, or have breakage, if you allow too much dried up oil, or lint and thread to build up like this. |
