Necchi BU MIRA Sewing Machine Italian made masterpiece! (unfinished blog under construction)

Necchi BU is a heavy, high quality, extremely well engineered, and VERY well built, Italian manufactured home sewing machine, which is capable of high speeds, sewing fabrics from light to heavy, and even had a special zigzag embroidery stitch attachment available (I don't have the Wonder Wheel attachment at the moment) to attach to the right front side of the machine, which could sew all kinds of beautiful stitches, using cams.

Necchi BU MIRA oil ports have a nylon ball bearing (NOT METAL) inside each spring loaded oil port, you MUST push down, to oil through these oil ports, if your oiler doesn't have a metal straw to push down, use the tip of a screwdriver to press down, while oiling, or the oil will not get where it needs to go. This design for oil ports was to keep dust and lint out of the oil, keeping the machine cleaner inside.
Necchi BU MIRA underside bobbin area ( not cleaned all the way, yet) Class 15 bobbin system, the bobbin hook release do not require tools, you literally pull the two knobs, to the left and then out to the side, and the bobbin retaining ring will then flip down, on that hinge at the bottom. You can then remove the bobbin hook, and clean the bobbin hook race, and oil it.

If you buy one second hand, and get it super cheap, expect to need to rewire it. If it has been rewired, and actually runs and sews correctly, it is worth around $150 minimum, because it will cost you that much to have the wiring and motor fixed, possibly more, unless you can do the work yourself. These are definitely WORTH IT!

The 2 colors I have had Necchi BU models in are olive green, and black.

Often, you will find all kinds of lint, and old dried oil, inside these vintage sewing machines, especially if you get them for a low price. Those in clean, currently serviced sewing condition, can sell for a couple of hundred dollars, especially if they have accessories, and manuals. Just the accessories can run $50, manuals anywhere from $20 on up, but you can download free copies online, if you can find them.

There are free groups online on both Facebook & Yahoo, especially for Necchi sewing machines, some are only for vintage Italian made Necchi sewing machines, not for the Taiwan, or Chinese manufactured models. (I love the Taiwan manufactured Necchi sewing machines, too.)

The beautiful silver "dots" on the top, are actually steel ball bearing oiling ports, designed to allow oil, but not dust, down into the sewing machine. No need to dismantle the machine, in order to oil it, before sewing. Many vintage sewing machines require a screwdriver, at the least, to remove the top of the machine, in order to oil it, before sewing, the ball bearing oiling ports are a well designed  shortcut for the home sewing public! (Note all the dirty Qtips on the lid of Gojo, those were dipped in alcohol, to clean those oiling ports, that's why they are brown. This was a very dirty machine, when my hubby bought it for me!

This nut is missing, and probably part of why the zigzag isn't working. I had spinal cord tumors, and had to have surgery, so I didn't get all of the way finished cleaning up, my Necchi BU, and wasn't able to get it rewired, yet, either. It turns smoothly, and straight stitches very well.

Always check the electrical wiring, before attempting to plug in, and test a vintage sewing machine. The insulation on the wiring eventually dries out and cracks, leaving exposed wires, which can both shock, you, possibly kill you, if you don't get them rewired properly, first!

Notice the heavy duty metal construction on the underside of the Necchi BU. It looks like a previous owner attempted to cover bare wiring with a liquid electrical tape, but it is NOT safe, and must be rewired completely.
