Kenmore monogrammers for Vintage Sewing Machines (under construction)
Kenmore sewing machines have been able to sew beautiful monograms, for many decades, but the automatic monogrammers have been popular, off and on, over the years, but only came with the top of the line Kenmore sewing machine models, though they could be purchased separately, depending on which model of Kenmore you had, and which model of monogrammer you wanted to buy.
There are 3 styles of monogrammers, that I am aware of, which fit Kenmore sewing machines, the 2 styles I have good photos of, at the moment, are the ones with tan monogrammer rings (some oval, some round), which came in the gray and cream vinyl "books", with long cream letter plate cams. Some fit freearms, others fit flat bed sewing machines.
The second style of Kenmore monogrammers, are in a sage green plastic case, like the "tower of power" accessory set, which came with the luxury model 1802. These came with a unique 2 arm, geared plate, which snaps into the machine bed, above the bobbin loading area, and use round cams, which were available in the alphabet, and numbers 0-9, but only one, to 3 cams came with this monogrammer, you could order up to 9 other cams, free, using a postcard coupon, which came with your new Kenmore.
The 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's models, are the ones I will cover first, to the best of my knowledge and research.
Tip, for vintage Kenmore sewing machines
Flat front needleplate monogrammers are usually for freearm models
Step down needleplate front fit flatbed models, like the 1803, 1703, 1753, 1755, (but it does need to be a specific size), monogrammer ring is a circle.
Rear mounted monogrammers will have "Kenmore" be upside right to the sewer, when installed from the back of the machine.
