Buying Vintage Sewing Machine Parts

Vintage, and antique sewing machines  are becoming popular collectibles, as well as being fantastic sewing tools. One of the biggest problems you will run into, however, is the fact that parts are harder to find, than you might expect, because not as many people sew their own clothing, and home decor goods, children's toys, etc., as in past generations.

Luckily, Ebay, and online stores, make it easier to find parts, than you might expect, but you will make some mistakes, along the way, as will some of your suppliers, because no sewing machine parts store has all the parts in stock, or even the part information, manuals, or servicing guides, for the tens of thousands of sewing machine models which have been manufactured over the past hundred and seventy years. Be kind, be patient, part suppliers WANT to send you the right parts, they want your continued business. If you receive the wrong part, let them know, kindly, theway you would want treated, if you were the one who made the mistake.

Remember, if you can't tell the supplier what exact part you need, there is a much higher chance of getting the wrong part. Belts are a great example of this, because they come in a variety of widths, thickness, materials, and types and colors, from v belts, to round, stretchy rubber belts, orange toothed belts, some have fiberglass, or fiber belts, with metal cleats, or staples, which are actually a timing belt, and if you don't know the length, or width of the belt, and if a specific material, or type is required, there is a much higher risk of getting the wrong part.

Part suppliers have a lot of money tied up in their stock of parts, it takes a lot of time and effort, to both acquire, and organize, and keep records, so please remember that, and that if you want parts to stay available, you need to be supportive of those suppliers. Many communities no longer have any sewing stores, of any kind, not even a service and repair center, so if you are blessed to have one in your community, and want it to remain close to you, support it, and help them grow their businesses, by telling your sewing friends, what a great service, and products, they supply.

Below, I am listing some of the sewing suppliers I have purchased parts, or sewing supplies from, with positive outcomes.
