CAN CHAIN OFF! BEAUTIFUL THREAD LACE!!! (Even with 5 thread top coverstitch!) See chained off stitch sample in green thread, with white thread for top coverstitch, in white ribbed cotton tank top hem photo.

FREEARM!

My first attempt at 5 thread top coverstitch, on a garment. I chose a ribbed tank top that has been waiting YEARS to be hemmed, and armholes and neck finishes. Not perfect, but MUCH better than when I tried a coverstitch with my BabyLock Evolve (which I love, but it doesn't do top coverstitch).

Built in Thread Trimmer (cuts looper and needle threads- I do not have the top thread trimmer, so I snip the remaining top thread, any threads, myself, just raise presser foot, to remove project, afterusing builtin cutter, and snip any remaining uncut threads.

Only turn handwheel back, over the top (clockwise), or it unthreads the lower looper.

I finally acquired the third needle screw, eyelet, and eyelet screw, spreader, and spreader thread guide, and was able to sew a top coverstitch, for the first time!

What types of products and stitches can a coverstitch be used for?

Underwear - attaching elastic to waist and legs

Swimwear- elasticated straps, hemming edges over elastic at necklines, armholes, cutouts, leg openings

Lingerie- attaching lace, attaching elastic, decorative top coverstitches

Binding- necklines, armholes like tank tops

Tshirts- hems on sleeves and hem, top coverstitch neckline and shoulder seams, if desired

Sweatshirts- neckline, top of ribbed cuffs and ribbed waistband, to flatten seams. Flat patch pockets, or kangaroo pouch pockets, aroundfront edge of hoodie, decorative top coverstitch c I'llan be used to add modern style touches

Sweatpants & Leggings - chainstitch over elastic, wide coverstitch hem, top coverstitch over any seams, pockets, for modern appeal

Hem blankets

Jean belt loops

Spaghetti straps

Far right position for top coverstitch eyelet, spreader hook and spreader thread guide, to create top coverstitch

Another view of far right position of top coverstitch components, when needles are down in the fabric. The eyelet position brings the top coverstitch thread to the front of the spreader guide, so the spreader hook can grab it, and take it back to the left needle.

Far left spreader hook position, relating to the left needle. Spreader hook must be low enough to allow left needle to pin down the top coverstitch thread.

Far right top coverstitch components, another view, a spreader hook reaches far right position, to grab top coverstitch thread.

Probably the best top coverstitch spreader hook, spreader thread guide, and eyelet view, as the spreader reaches far right position, thread comes under right needle, then spreader hook grabbing top coverstitch thread, to brring it back to the left needle.

Top row first 5 thread top coverstitch test! I had to buy a new needle screw for center needle, so now I CAN sew 3 needle coverstitch and 5 thread top coverstitch!

Coverstitch machines need cleaned and oiled, this is how my Yamato VC2700 looked inside the freearm, when I purchased it  from the son of a woman who had been given it, as part of her severance package, when the factories in Lincolnton, North Carolina, shut down, after the NAFTA Treaties were signed. It destroyed most of the textile manufacturing underpinning the local economy, that was not furniture manufacturing, or tobacco and cigarette manufacturing.

Front of freearm opens easily for cleaning, oiling, and threading the looper

This attachment was still on my Yamato VC2700, left overfrom the factory. This one looks like my beltloop attachments for my BabyLock Evolve coverstitch/serger combination machine. It included a holder for the roll of fabrics, which fed from on top of the machine, into this "Hidem" (hide them- meaning the raw sides of bias tape, or other narrow fabric strips, used for belt loops, or other strap like fabric wrapped products
