Kenmore 1750
I have bought and fixed up model 1750 many times, as well as the near look alikes (there are probably 8 models which all take C cams, are pale green, some with white top and details, as I shared in another blog post), mostly because it is my mom's favorite model, so we have one at each of my sibling's homes, where Mom lives, several months at a time, so she always has "her" machine, and can sew without relearning a new model.
1750 is pale green and white take Kenmore C cams, requires a zigzag cam to sew zigzag stitches |
1750 is a smooth, HEAVY metal mechanical machine, and does require a zigzag cam, be installed on the top of the machine, in addition to a stitch width setting above 0 in order to sew a zigzag stitch.
Zigzag model (single cams)
Stretch stitch capable (double cams)
15 stitch cams in green book in green plastic case Can use ALL 45 Kenmore C cams available!
Buttonholer flat aluminum with cams (takes C cam 0 to sew auto buttonhole)
Can use the low shank Kenmore buttonholer, if preferred
Twin needle capable
Low shank feet easy to find presser feet I usually get a low shank snap on shank, and a set of snap on feet, to make changing feet easier for Mom
Center homing needle easier to find a walking foot, or ruffler, for these models
Single belt
Exterior motor
Light switch must be on to sew
SIMPLE CONTROLS - stitch width dial
Stitch length lever up for reverse, thumbscrew on lever, tighten, or loosen, to set for specific stitch length
In order to remove the top, to oil the top of the machine, you must REMOVE THE CAM, before removing the 2 top screws. Then the top will come off. There is a cam release built into the cam door, so anytime the top door is open, the cam followers will release the cam, so you cannot test sew with the cam door open.
The 1750 cam door opens on the right side, is hinged on the left side. Other nearly identical models have a cam door which opens from the front, or lift on the left side.
If using the low shank buttonholer, instead of the flat aluminum buttonholer 1750 came with, here is a video I made to help my Mom install the buttonholer more easily.
