Use sewing machine oil to oil machine and treadle. You can also wipe sewing machine oil on bare metal parts, and the painted areas of this machine, and treadle base,as well, to protect from rust.

EMBROIDERY & DARNING

Because the 15-88 has the feed dog drop feed feature (under the machine bed, loosen the thumb screw, to drop feed dogs) bobbin thread goes vertically up, without the 90° turn that Singer 66, 99, 101, 201 all have, so the 15 is usually the preference of machine embroidery enthusiasts.

15 bobbin hook system

Bobbin hook area should be cleaned and oiled,
especially the lip the hook rides on. This is what it looks
like, when the bobbin and hook are removed for
cleaning and oiling.

Treadle belt throw off lever, to have the belt disengage
So machine can be put away, pull this lever, and turn the wheel. The belt will go off to the right.

When setting the machine back up to sew, the flat portion of the wheel will grab the belt, automaticay reinstalling it,just by spinning the large treadle pulley wheel.

You can use needle nose pliers to cut the belt to length, and use the stiletto to put a hole in the leather treadle belt. Then use the needle nose pliers to squeeze the belt staple closed, when installing the treadle belt.
